THE GOLDEN LAKE | 7 DAYS 6 NIGHTS

A TRIP TO THE HEARTLAND OF PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE

Day one: We will wake up very early in the morning and be able to start our adventure into the jungle of the mirrors, the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

We will take a public speed boat to navigate 5 hours up the Maranhon River. The sunrise will be one of the first beautiful panoramas that will welcome us to the world of the biodiversity. Breakfast will be served on board.

By noon, we will be dropped at the First Control Point – PV 1 Samiria, the gate to wildlife, where we will make a brief stop to register our entrance to this protected area. Our guide will explain about the creation of the National Reserve and the importance of the species that are protecting. The coffee color of the waters in the Samiria River will tell that we are entering the largest natural protected area of Peru. Birds of various species will be seen while the pink and gray dolphins celebrate for our visit.

We shall continue our journey and in one more hour, we will arrive to the community of San Martin de Tipishca which will be the center of our operations. After settling into our accommodation, we will have the opportunity to walk through the community, to know its history and the culture of the people who live in it.

We will get accommodation in a villager’s house. This will allow us to interact with them and learn more about the local population.

This afternoon, we will walk around the village, will learn about the traditions, the village organization and visit some farmlands. Our walk will take us up to the next village where a small wooden boat will be waiting to bring us back to San Martin. On our way, we will enjoy watching several species of birds and pink dolphins. Sunset will be one of the most beautiful scenarios in the rainforest.

Dinner will be served in the dining room of our accommodation and after enjoying it, we will be able to rest until the next day.

 

Day two: Breakfast will be ready as soon as we wake up.

This morning we will join a local group to go paddling by a creek looking for anacondas and.

It will not be an easy task. We will need couple of hours.

We should be back to the village for.

This afternoon we hope to be able to swim surrounded by dolphins that live in the mouth of the Yanayacu creek.

To do this, we will take our canoes and rowing and cross the lagoon. It will be an evening of dreams. Pink and gray dolphins; birds of various species and one of the most beautiful sunsets will make this day sacking giving us a natural spectacle that only you can live in this place. Then our dinner, we will take our boat of wood to make our tour in search of caimans. With some luck we will be able to find any of them and be able to take the photos you want.

 

Day three: Our day begins with an impressive bird watching.

Cormorants, herons, of several species, kingfisher, gulls, hawks, parrots, oropendolas, macaws, wild ducks, hummingbirds, pigeons, orioles, etc. etc. are only some of the 449 species of birds that we will be able to see.

Some monkeys that awaken in the morning will be jumping on the branches in the seek of insects and larvae among the foliage of the shore of the river. We will arrive to one of the most beautiful lakes. The greenery of the jungle is much more alive in this place.

This will be an unforgettable day. Our goal is to fish using the different fishing gear used by the locals: fishing nets, hooks and arrows. We are going to make fire by the shore of the lagoon and will prepare the piranhas and other fish species we caught.

We need to return to the Community before sunset.

Our guide will tell us some stories about the jungle and the customs of the population.

There are many believes in the local culture. One of the most common is that pink dolphins are used to turn into people and walk around the village looking for some girls to take them into the water.

 

Day four: Breakfast will be served very early in our dining room. Our camping gears will be ready to start the journey that will take us up to the most remote areas of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. We will fallow the black waters of the Samiria River until we get to 3rd Control Point, Tacshacocha.

The Rangers of this station will explain us about the work they are doing and about the importance of protecting the endangered species that are sheltered in this area. Our lunch will be served along with the Rangers. We will start coordinating the activities for the evening. We expect to go out into the sand banks and collect some turtle eggs and bring them to the Station where they will renest them and take care till they hatch. This very night, we will also have a good chance to see a great variety of insects, spiders, snakes and some small mammal that are used to be out during the night.

 

Day five: We will wake up before dawn to make a boat tour around Atun Cocha (a huge lagoon), where we hope to be able to see some species of monkeys who go out in search of food at dawn.

Return to our camp for breakfast. Subsequently we will take a box lunch and take a walk that aims to find large mammals such as tapirs, capybaras, tapirs, peccaries, deers or if lucky, some jaguar that inhabit this area of the National Reserve.

We return to camp before sunset. We will prepare our dinner and then go out in search of more adventure and more species in their natural habitat. Occasionally, we will be able to find anacondas or giant otters.

This night will also be conducive to listen to some of the legends about the mysteries of our Peruvian Jungle.

 

 

Day six: Since we arrived at the day six of our expedition to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, and we were able to enjoy both the activities, excursions, stories, legends and especially of the beautiful and varied biodiversity of flora and wild fauna. After our breakfast, we begin our return trip.

We will arrive to the community of San Martin after midday. We will take a nap after lunch. We will make a brief account of all that we have lived in this journey.

In the afternoon, we will have a further opportunity to once again enjoy the warmth of the people and of the lagoon in the community.

In the evening, we will pack our belongings and be ready for the morning.

 

Day seven: We will begin our return trip to the city at very early hours of the morning. Sign our output record in the Guard Post.

We travel in favor of the current of the river, which will make our arrival to the city of Nauta is in less hours. Once in Nauta, we will take our car to the city of Iquitos.
